We would like to reassure all of our clients that in light of the recent voluntary recall of select canned dog food batches by Hills Pet Nutrition nationally due to potentially elevated levels of Vitamin D (see the full statement below), we have taken all necessary precautions to ensure that all recalled foods were removed from our shelves immediately and that all Hills products in store are safe.
Official Statement from Hills Pet Nutrition SA:
“We can confirm, at this stage, that there have been no confirmed cases or deaths related to the recall in South Africa. This is expected since the recall in South Africa is limited to 5 canned dog foods and only 6 batches, which would have needed to be fed exclusively for an extended period of time.
“We have heard about some pet parents in the USA who suspect a link between their pet’s death and prolonged Vit D exposure. As pet parents ourselves, we are heartbroken by each and every story of someone losing a pet they love. We also understand that these are often complicated health issues and so are talking to pet parents and their vets to learn more and evaluate each specific situation. It’s too early to make conclusions on those cases.
“We can say that we take each and every concern very seriously and are working around the clock to evaluate them and also to ensure even stricter process controls to safeguard our products. Please visit www.hillspet.co.za/productlist for a detailed list of recalled products and more information. Please note that the voluntary recall is isolated to only a few batches of the specified SKUs. No dry foods, cat foods or treats are affected. “
Should you have any concerns or questions please contact the Hills customer care line on 0800228783 and they will answer any questions or reassure any concerns that you may have.
Regards,
The Ashburne Vet team.
