In her previous job in East London in the Eastern Cape, Dr Monika Seele helped treat animals from the local zoo so she really had her hands full.
One such example was when a troop of chimpanzees had to be treated for TB. "We had to figure out interesting ways to get them to take their tablets," she recalls.
Treating a tiger for chronic kidney disease was also quite a challenge, she says.
Monika grew up on a farm in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and now lives in Durban with her partner Craig, their daughter Sophie and two "very naughty" cats.
She's worked as a qualified vet for the past 10 years and has also worked in Pietermaritzburg and England (a two-year stint).
Monika has been with Ashburne for the past two years. She enjoys trail running and any other outdoor adventures.
