When should you give your doggo treats?
We understand that giving your dog a nice, tasty morsel can be an inevitability sometimes. When they look at you with those puppy-dog eyes, and you have a delicious plate of food in front of you, why should you have some and not them?
One reason to not share, at least during your mealtime, is that it can reinforce the behavior you may not like. For, if your furry friend begs while you eat and you reward them with food, they are more likely to beg in the future. Often this behavior will eventually extend to begging from your guests too. We all know a friend whose doggos look at us expectantly while we eat dinner at their place. Thus, if you want to give treats it can be better to assign a particular time; like after dinner.
If you want to take this a little further you can teach your dog to sit by holding the treat above them and only rewarding them with it once they stop jumping and sit down.
